Rabbis, presidents, board members and others—many of those who do the heavy lifting of communal life in their towns and neighborhoods—gathered in Orlando, Florida, at Yeshiva University’s National Leadership Conference at the ChampionsGate resort.

The now-former treasurer of a Woodmere synagogue who's accused of pilfering more than $600,000 from his congregation was released from jail on bail Tuesday night, authorities said.

The first thing you notice when you talk to singer Sholom Jacobs is the accent.
I couldn’t quite place it. Perhaps English? A bit South African maybe?
I was wrong on both counts. The son of Chabad shluchim, Jacobs, 33, was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, where he began his musical career as a child singing in shul, school choirs and concerts ran by his father. Jacobs left Scotland at 16, spending three years learning in an Israeli yeshiva before finally settling in New York.

Cedarhurst Mayor Parise leading the Parade
A memorial was held at the Lawrence train station at 10:30 a.m., followed by the parade. The parade was proceeding east on Central Avenue to the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department for a brief service. It then continued on Central Avenue to Cedarhurst Avenue, then north to the veterans memorial in the Andrew J. Parise Park, where services where concluded and refreshments where served.

Yesterday the Five Towns Cummunity gathered to celebrate Lag B'Omer at the Andrew J. Parise Park formerly Cedarhurst Park, an event sponsored and organized by Chabad of the Five Towns. the Highlight was the "Airtime Extreme Trampoline Show" , and there were activities for all ages. Participants enjoyed archery, a barbeque, a bonfire and music by Azamra DJ.

Kopel’s under-the-radar advocacy puts most of the Five Towns back into one Legislative District
Five Towns, N.Y. – Legislator Howard J. Kopel (LD -7) confirmed substantial success of his marathon efforts to prevent a proposed new legislative redistricting map for District 7 from cutting off half of Cedarhurst and a large portion of Woodmere. The current District 7, which Legislator Kopel has represented since taking office in January 2010, includes the entire Five Towns, along with communities in East Rockaway, Bay Park, Mill Brook, and parts of Oceanside and Island Park.

The opening ceremony was done by the entire fifth grade students. Each class represented one middah upon which chessed is created as well as upon which the state of Israel exists. In addition, each middah was represented with a color worm by the students. Students carried props to show how each middah was manifested in the land of Israel.
