Parking field No. 6 with its 128 parking spaces is considered an important part of Cedarhurst’s downtown shopping district. Seventy-three of the parking stalls are metered and 55 are used through a village permit, said Village Administrator Sal Evola. “This grant will provide the funding to rehabilitate parking field No. 6, which will include drainage, streetscaping, lighting and paving,” said Cedarhurst Mayor Andrew J. Parise.
The CDBG is a federally funded program that provides communities with money to address a variety of community development needs and can be used for a broad spectrum of activities associated to housing, economic development, commercial revitalization, public services, infrastructure and public facilities.
“From downtown revitalization efforts to improving parking, these funds help strengthen our communities and jumpstart the local economy,” County Executive Ed Mangano stated in a press release.
Nassau’s Office of Community Development annually issues a Notice of Funding Availability and accepts applications from member municipalities and other eligible applicants for the grants. The money is paid as a reimbursement, where the recipients first must spend the money then submit receipts to be compensated.
“The parking lot on Maple and Central avenues is in the very heart of the Five Towns, and its upkeep is vital to the quality of life of residents and Central Avenue shoppers,” County Legislator Howard Kopel (R-Lawrence) said in a press release.
