Nassau County, NY - Scott Morrell, the Long Island kosher caterer accused of serving non-kosher food to unsuspecting guests over a period of eighteen months, is calling for the Nassau county district attorney to investigate a Lake Success lawyer, claiming that the accusations made against him last week by two former employees are a blatant attempt at extortion.

According the a release sent out today by Morrell’s lawyer, Steven Shlesinger, the allegations made against Morrell Caterers were fabricated by Howard Fensterman in an attempt to persuade Morrell to drop a pending $19 million civil lawsuit against him. Morrell is one of three plaintiffs bringing charges against Fensterman, who allegedly persuaded the plaintiffs to invest large sums of money in a Dubai insurance company, which eventually proved to be nothing more than a Ponzi scheme. Fensterman is currently scheduled to testify in court on March 8th.
In his letter to District Attorney Kathleen Rice, Shlesinger alleges that when Fensterman’s attempts to have the case dismissed by a judge were denied, his lawyers delivered legal documents to Morrell on January 30th, detailing two proposed lawsuits accusing him of serving non-kosher food. According to Schlesinger, copies of those same documents were personally delivered to him on the same day by Fensterman’s legal counsel, Steven Cohn, who represented that the lawsuits against Morrell would be not be filed if the pending case against Fensterman was dropped.
Shlesinger’s letter to the district attorney says that it is clear that Fensterman had both motive and means to discredit Morrell when he refused to back down, tapping two disgruntled former employees in order to sabotage a business that is built largely on trust and reputation and called on District Attorney Rice to launch an investigation.
Deputy Communications Director for the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office Chris Munzing told VIN News that they received the letter submitted by Morrell’s attorney and are in the process of reviewing the allegations.
“Howard Fensterman is a politically connected individual who thinks that the rules of the law and justice don’t apply to him,” Shlesinger told VIN News. “We intend to pursue this matter and prove that the accusations against Scott Morrell are completely untrue.”
