Five rockets fired at Sderot from Gaza

Of the five rockets fired by Palestinians from the Gaza Strip Monday morning, two exploded in downtown Sderot and three on open ground in the Shear Hanegev region. There were no casualties,but Sderot roads were damaged. A Code Red alert warned the population of the incoming rockets.

US drone strikes in Yemen kill some 25 al Qaeda, 3 civilians

The strikes took place Saturday and Sunday, targeting a site in central Yemen and another in the southern mountains, following information that “terrorist elements were planning to target vital civilian and military installations.”

Strongman El-Sisi faces single challenger in run for Egyptian president

The former army chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi who toppled the Muslim Brotherhood government is challenged only by the leftist politician Hamdeed Sabahi in next month’s presidential election. Theirs were the only two names put down as candidates to enter the race before nominations closed Saturday night.

Ex-FM Abdullah Abdullah edges ahead in Afghan presidential vote count

With about half of the estimated seven million ballots cast in Afghanistan’s presidential election counted, former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah is in the lead with 44 percent of the vote, followed by Ashraf Ghani with 33 percent. Assad leaves Damascus to visit recaptured Christian town

Syrian President Bashar Assad on Sunday visited the ancient Christian town of Maaloula in the Kalamoun Mts., which the Syrian army recaptured from rebels last week. It was the second time in more than three years of civil war that Assad had left central Damascus. He toured historic Christian sites, including the 4th century Mar Sarkis, and accused the “terrorists” – his term for Islamist rebels – of damaging them

Europeans fighting with al Qaeda in Syria quadrupled

European intelligence and counterterrorism sources reported Sunday that the number of European Muslims who have joined up with al Qaeda to fight in Syria quadrupled in the first months of this compared with 2013. They put the current figure at 3,000 and said that European capitals face an increasing menace of terrorism at the hands of returning Islamists who have undergone training and combat in Syria.

Two Jerusalem policemen injured in morePalestinian disturbances

When Temple Mount was opened to Jewish and tourist visitors Sunday morning, Palestinian rioters began hurling large rocks and firebombs at security officers guarding the shrines holy to three faiths at the site and Lions Gate. Two police officers were injured. Twenty-four rioters were taken into custody and Temple Mount wasagain closed to the public.
